What is the Need for another Crowd Funding website?
It's a very important question to ponder upon. I say this because finding an answer to this question led to creation of urgesture.com the way it is now.
It all started with a college competition, where 4 of us got to together to explore crowdfunding in India. This led us not only to know more about the different kind of NGOs that work in India and abroad but also their ways of working. We specifically spoke to NGOs that were small to mid scale run by a hand full of people.
This when we met Tarun Manav, founder of Prerna Sewa Sansthan 1st, a small NGO working for past 10 years almost and serving the people and animals of Ghaziabad. It is run by a single person with a support of few others. He, along with his son, was working day and night to not only serve but also create social media posts, edit videos and contact donors to make sure that his NGO survives for the next day.
During this research we realized that if every single person from our college, which was very near to the NGO, contributed just 1 rupee daily, the NGO's requirements could be addressed for 6 months. So we understood the power of crowdfunding conceptually but the question was Why wasn't this Happening!!
We then explored the different crowdfunding website working in India and we found an interesting thing : all of them were based on campaigns that were created for few days. Very minimal effort was being made to improve the bond between an NGO and a Donor
But running a NGO is not a one time campaign. They have monthly expenses and needs that they need our help with. They need volunteers, who are way more talented than them to help them with content, posts etc...
And this is how UR GESTURE was born.
We want to create an ecosystem where Donors can Trust an NGO again. To do that we want to be the most transparent crowdfunding out there.
Through our website NGO can list their regular expenses , donors can interact with the NGOs, contribute cash or their time and most importantly be assured that the fund donated will be used for the purpose it was given. To keep the system clean we also created a filter where we only onboard Indian NGOs with 80G certificate
So do visit us sometime and provide constructive feedback so that we can serve better!!
